My daughter, Abbie, who just turned nine, wanted to cook on her own this week. I had bought her an old 1950's children's cookbook with picture recipes in full color by Mary Alden. She cooked a corn bread all by herself following the picture/word recipe. Here is the recipe Abbie made which turned out delicious:

Corn Bread

1 c. flour
4 t. baking powder
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 t. salt
1 c. cornmeal
1 c. milk
1/4 c. oil
1 egg

Add in order. Mix with a hand egg beater, but don't overbeat, Mary Alden warns. Pour in a greased square tin and bake for 20 minutes at 425 degrees.

Abbie wrote next to her recipe, "realy good."
